The importance of Product Data Management (PDM) and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) continues to grow in industry, yet it is the exception rather than the rule in engineering and technology education.
Our Books
The goal of this book is to provide a resource for educators to expose students to the concepts, capabilities and processes associated with PDM so that they are familiar with the tools and methods they will encounter in their future careers. Many universities teach CAD, but that is only the beginning. Products are systems of systems that have interfaces, inputs/outputs, and utilize COTS parts to meet a given market or customer need. The data created across each domain needs to be properly managed, stored, and changed to support efficient product development. We want the next generation of students to be ready to join industry with this knowledge to hit the ground running.
Our Industry edition was created to be a pragmatic resource for the engineering or IT professional. Not all firms have the on-staff PLM experts needed to create and execute PLM projects. This is especially true for Small & Medium Businesses that are trying to scale. What they often do have is talented and driven team members, that given the appropriate assistance and knowledge resources, can identify, plan, and run a PLM project to improve the firm’s bottom line. This book is to help provide the foundational knowledge to make PLM efforts successful.
